I recently had the opportunity to attend a deeply transformative yoga & therapy workshop, ‘Sattva Reset,’ organised by Dr Heema Nanavati, near Mumbai. This workshop was based on the philosophy of the 5 elements – earth, water, fire, air, and space. From a wellness retreat, it soon evolved into a profound journey of self-awareness, healing, and energetic balance. By bringing together yoga, Ayurveda, holistic therapies, and nourishing food practices, the workshop focused on healing the body, calming the mind, and restoring inner harmony.

Understanding the 5 Elements Within

One of the workshop’s most insightful lessons was understanding how the five elements exist within our bodies and minds. Every emotion, thought, discomfort, and imbalance is connected to the following elements –

Earth represents grounding and stability.

Water governs emotions and flow

Fire relates to transformation and digestion.

Air controls movement and breath

Space symbolizes awareness and expansion.

The teachers explained how emotional blockages and unresolved stress often get stored in the body, eventually manifesting as physical pain, stiffness, fatigue, anxiety, or disease. Through specific therapies and yogic practices, the workshop aimed to release these trapped energies and restore balance.

Healing Therapies That Made a Difference

My Journey the 5 Elements 2

The workshop blended traditional Ayurvedic healing therapies such as Svedanam Treatments for detoxification and relaxation, Specialized snehanam using medicated oils to nourish tissues, Sthanik Basti for localized pain relief, Panchakarma cleansing techniques, Marma Chikitsa to activate vital energy points, Dhara Chikitsa for calming the nervous system, Anjana (Eye Therapy), and Nasya Chikitsa for cleansing and rejuvenation with modern therapeutic techniques such as Fascia release techniques, Dry cupping, Dry needling, Sound healing sessions. Each treatment was thoughtfully designed around the day’s dominant element.

The therapy sequences were designed to release emotions and healthily remove energy blockages. Many participants experienced relief from chronic stiffness, stress, and emotional heaviness.

My Journey the 5 Elements 1

Yoga Practices

The therapies followed by calming yoga sessions, including Pranayama, Meditation, Element-based yoga flows, Mobility and finally Restorative yoga.

From restorative postures to deep stretches and therapeutic movements, the Mefree Yoga Props provided during the workshop helped participants experience yoga safely and effectively, regardless of their flexibility levels. The sessions beautifully demonstrated how supportive tools can enhance healing and relaxation during yoga therapy.

Satvic Food Aligned with Nature’s Elements

Beyond the therapies and yoga sessions, the workshop offered a deeply nourishing food experience. Every meal was carefully curated according to the element of the day, following the principles of Satvic nutrition. The light & nourishing meals with seasonal items not only supported digestion and detoxification but also beautifully complemented the therapies and yoga practices. Herbal teas, balanced spices, warm meals, and fresh ingredients created a sense of comfort and mindfulness throughout the retreat.

It reminded us that healing does not happen only on the yoga mat — it also begins with what we consume daily.

My Biggest Takeaway

Stress, emotions, trauma, fear, and unresolved feelings often remain stored within the body as energetic blocks, eventually appearing as pain or discomfort.

Through yoga, therapies, breathwork, sound healing, and conscious living, the workshop focused on helping us release these stored energies and restore inner harmony.

The experience was not just about relaxation; it was about learning how to listen to the body with awareness and compassion.

About the Author

This experience was narrated by a core member of the yoga.in team. At yoga.in, we believe that to understand the “Union” of yoga truly, one must step off the pedestal of an observer and onto the mat of a student. While our platform typically serves as a global bridge connecting thousands of practitioners to institutes, we do believe in experiencing such workshops first hand to share honest opinions through a personal lens.
